T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide Review

A big strong truck on a cell phone, T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide ($ 199) roared on store shelves ready for any challenge phones. With its dual-core processor, Google Android OS gingerbread, fast Internet access, beautiful interface, and a high quality camera, Slide 4G, luxury phone from T-Mobile, and it brooks no compromise. Therefore it is our Editors' Choice for smartphones keyboarded on T-Mobile.

Design, phone calls and Internet connections

There is no way to solve this problem: 4G myTouch change is a brick. Although similar in size to many other smartphones (4.8 by 2.4 by 0.52 inches-AAP) at 6.5 ounces, which is exceptionally strong. But it feels well built with good materials, the front is black glass buttons with physical action and an optical touchpad just below the 3.7-inch, 800 x 480 screen. In the black soft touch back, an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, one stands out a bit, highlighted by a strip of ribbed plastic money.

Open the phone to outline four key keyboards with shallow but wide apart. The keys are a bit softer than the state of HTC ($ 49.99, three stars) or 4G T-Mobile Sidekick ($ 129.99, 4 stars), but more to do. In general, a good keyboard.

In my tests, 4G slide was acceptable for the reception and call quality was decent. It was a little 'hard to loud, a little' too trebly at times, but perfectly adequate. However, this is not the phone you are buying a non-stop call. Built-in blocks of noise cancellation of background noise at a price to make your voice sound is packed hard. Speakerphone is nice and hard, inside and outside the usability, and transmitted through the microphone was a bit 'of echo, but they were clear. Talk time is up to 5 hours 22 minutes, everything went well.

T-Mobile Genius button dialing improvement based on the traditional voice network with a software that allows you to search the Internet and deliver text messages to voice. While the voice dialing works fine on my Plantronics Voyager Pro + (4 stars, $ 99), was unable to connect to the network service to deliver text messages, the phone several times passed.

The shift is 4G HSPA + 21 modem, coupled with its fast processor, offers internet speeds furious. During the test, I had more than 5Mbps down Speedtest.net Ookla is approx. The phone also offers 802.11 b / g / n connectivity, and exploits the fact that calls the Wi-Fi call quality over Wi-Fi is not as good as cell phone, I heard a noise perceptible background, and the voice sounded computation time. But it is a great backup when you have no signal, and the function is not offered by any other carrier. 4G slide also functions as a modem or Wi-Fi hotspot for a maximum of five units, with the service plan T-Mobile right.

Android App and performance

The shift of 4G 2.3.4 running with Android HTC Sense extensions 3.0, a Qualcomm double heart, 1.2GHz processor. That's pretty much the same platform as our other 4G HTC T-Mobile Editor's Sensation ($ 199.99, 4 stars), and it also provides excellent performance. The shift 4G did really well on our benchmarks, and Web pages, including Flash content loads quickly.

HTC Sense is the best leather manufacturer's Android, perfectly balancing additional features such as Facebook and Twitter integration in the contact book with an identity relatively non-disturbing visual. I have not experienced any slowdown or stalls on my phone during the test period.

T-Mobile has added several applications. KidZone creates a custom screen stuck with some programs on it so that your children have limited access to your phone. T-Mobile offers TV channels for $ 12.99 per month, TeleNav GPS provides you with real-time traffic, and Qik lets you video chat that, yes, does not work very well.

Multimedia

T-Mobile is a great promise for 4G chamber slides, calling it the "most advanced camera of any smartphone." This is an excellent camera, but some of the characteristics of the company widely touted deserve an asterisk.

First, the good news: Once you press the dedicated button, you get high 8-megapixel photos and clear, smooth high-definition 1080p video at 24 frames per second. The video is fragile, it could use some image stabilization. But HTC has worked out the kinks that caused the hiccup in our HTC Sensation. Still images captured on the phone is equally clear that any camera phone I have ever seen, and low light images are sharp, blur-free shutter speed. There is also a VGA front camera for self shooting.

T-Mobile announces' zero shutter speed ", but the focus is still about 0.6 seconds. You can take pictures until the autofocus locks in, but they can become blurred. When focus is locked, the shot is virtually instantaneous. "HDR Clear Shot" takes multiple images and combines them to avoid bright areas wash. However, if subjects are moving, you get a strange ghosting effect. The phone also has a burst mode and panorama mode, which works as advertised.

This is an amazing phone and media playback. The phone has 880MB of free memory, but it also comes with 8 GB MicroSD card under the back cover, we need a 32 GB card worked fine.

Pushing 4G play all music formats through its usual 3.5 mm headset jack, with its slender speakers or via a Bluetooth headset. For video, it handled my 1080p HD quality H.264 files without problems. Services T-Mobile TV streaming is expensive at $ 12.99 a month, but it offers a wide range of live channels, which play smoothly in full screen. I want to subscribe to Netflix instead, which is preinstalled on the phone and also had no problems with clear, full-screen video on a 4G connectivity, T-Mobile in my tests. There is only one missing piece: no way to connect an HDMI cable to see the contents of your phone on your HDTV. T-Mobile promotes DLNA streaming over for the video on television, but the television side of this equation is often useless. The phone also has an FM radio that works when you have a headset plugged in.

Conclusions

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide makes most of the things that we liked the feeling HTC and throw in a faster Internet connection and a hardware keyboard. Yes, it's a brick, but we'd like strength, speed and flexibility, and we are ready to weigh down our pockets for them.

Editors Choice typed previous smartphone T-Mobile was the T-Mobile G2 (4 stars, $ 99), which is thinner and lighter, but more slowly and less effectively over. We also like the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, but the youth-oriented Sidekick Skin Android can be very split. Slide MyTouch 4G is a state-of-the-art for Android, and T-Mobile customers who are looking for a real pocket computer should withdraw immediately.
